Alex Warren didn’t have the chance to properly accept his Song of the Year win at the 2026 iHeartRadio Music Awards — but he didn’t let it stop him from having a great night.
The singer-songwriter, 25, took home the final trophy of the night on March 26 for his song “Ordinary.” Viewers at home saw a shocked Warren hug his wife, Kouvr, as the credits rolled, but the broadcast was abruptly cut for time before he could get on stage and give his speech.
Shortly after, Warren and Kouvr posted a mirror selfie from a bathroom, smiling as he held up the card declaring his win.

“SONG OF THE YEAR,” he wrote atop the picture on his Instagram Stories.
Cut speech aside, it was a successful night for Warren, who got to give a speech for his Breakthrough Artist of the Year win and perform his new single “Fever Dream.”
He also took home wins for Pop Best New Artist and Favorite Debut Album
During his Breakthrough Artist speech, the musician recalled being in the crowd at the show about three years ago, and recognizing that it was a “strange feeling” to now be up on stage.
He joked that he was “not a popular kid growing up,” and would “probably have been voted most likely to not be a Breakthrough Artist by the entire school and probably some of the faculty members.”

"It wasn't cool to try," Warren continued, recalling that his classmates had "elaborate nicknames" for him and kicked him out of house parties, and that he once played his own singing videos on the school projector to "get all the students to laugh."

"The reason I'm telling you this is I hope that if there's anyone at home watching this right now that feels like they're not good enough or that no one believes in them, I do," he continued. "Truly, I do. You're going to be something amazing."
The star went on to thank iHeartRadio program directors, his wife, his team, his fans and his record label, Atlantic Records.
He finished his speech with an emotional shoutout to God and his late parents. He lost his father to cancer when he was just 9 years old, and his mother died of liver and renal failure in 2021.
“Truly, I know you're watching down, proud of the man I became. I wake up every day hoping I sing a lyric loud enough for you to hear it, and I love you so, so much and thank you so much. You are the reason I am the man I have become who I am,” he said. “This is for you."
The cut speech is not the first awards show blunder for Warren. At the Grammy Awards in February, the Best New Artist nominee dealt with a technical error while performing his hit "Ordinary," during which his in-ear device gave him trouble and his timing was off.
Earlier this month, he told PEOPLE that he "truly thought my career was over" after the glitch.
“I was really surprised by so many people coming up to me that day,” he said. “I think when you're in these settings, and there's all these important people, you kind of just think ... I walk into that room, and I think everyone hates me for some reason.”
