‘Big Brother’ Fans Cry Foul on Time Capsule Twist

It has been three weeks since Big Brother fans were first introduced to the BB Time Capsule. In this twist, the contestant who receives the most votes from America gets to enter the time capsule, and they either receive a power or a punishment. Fans are not happy with the twist, as they think the results are rigged.

All the winning Houseguest has to do is sit in the time capsule chair and press a button as the chair spins. If they land on “Punishment,” they receive a punishment from Big Brother‘s past. If they land on “Power,” they get one of six powers from the CBS show’s past. They are only allowed to enter the time capsule once.

In week one, Season 26 alum Angela Murray was the first Houseguest to enter the time capsule. She landed on a punishment and received the Egg Detective punishment, which was first worn in Season 27 by Vince Panaro. All this was was an egg costume with a hat and a magnifying glass. The other punishments include Lord of Latrine, Hamazon, Camp Guide, Adam and Eve, and the iconic Red Unitard.

The following week, Survivor‘s Rick Devens was voted as the next person to receive the honor. He won the Diamond Power of Veto. This power is good for six weeks and allows Devens to pull a Houseguest off the block AND rename the replacement nominee, taking the power away from the Head of Household (HOH).

This week, Dee Valladares, the second Survivor alum, won another power. She got the BB Bribe, which is good for the entire game. This power allows her to give one Houseguest $5,000 in exchange for a favor, such as voting how she wants, nominating/not nominating someone, throwing a competition, etc.

The remaining powers include Replay, Never Not Pass, Mystery Competitor, and the Coin of Destiny. Fans think that the fact that the three reality alums are the only ones who have been voted in so far.

“I have no problem with the BB Powers as a concept… but the way they were implemented this season is incredibly unfair. Of course the Icons were gonna win the first three weeks! When America votes, and no one else has any airtime, who else could possibly win? The Icons have been on TV previously… so America couldn’t possibly have made a stronger connection with anyone else in the house, meaning Angela, Devens, and Dee were always at a huge advantage,” the original Reddit poster said.

“It’s just another tool for production to rig the game for veterans. I hate it,” another commented.

“I felt like regardless of who got voted for, it was a great way to set up the icons with extra powers. After Devin’s got his power, I texted a friend and said I guess there’s no point in voting since Dee is going to get it,” a fan said.

“Hate hate hate,” a Reddit user said.

“I absolutely love the idea of previous powers and punishments in a fitting theme, in this case time travel, but it sucks in season with a few vets. Especially one where they had immunity week one, only one of them could be HoH, and they’re steamrolling,” a fan commented.

“An awful twist for this season. I feel like any twist that has to do with fan votes is dumb since that means its basically up to the editors. It is ten times worse tho this season obviously since the first 3 winners were the 3 returnees,” another said.

“I think you have to choose between that and gifting them the first HOH. Because to have both is setting them up way too well. I do like that the first one was the egg costume though,” one last fan said.
