Canada defender Alistair Johnston has revealed his nightmare flight situation after leaving the United States following their World Cup exit last week - telling fans he'd never travel with Frontier Airlines ever again.

Canada impressed their fans with a solid World Cup campaign, making it through the group stages before winning a knockout game for the first time ever, with a victory over Australia. They went on to lose to Morocco in the Round of 16 - the same stage where fellow hosts in Mexico and the United States were eliminated.

The Celtic right-back is believed to have left the Canadian World Cup camp to begin his offseason before returning to his club team this summer, but was flown to the wrong city and does not have his suitcases after landing.

He took to social media to post: "Learned my lesson today. Never fly @FlyFrontier even if it’s the only direct flight available.

“Genuinely look for multi-stop redeye flights before flying with them. I’m still not sure where my bags are and I’m in the wrong city somehow.”

Another traveller who appeared to also be flying with Frontier Airlines shared a similar wild story while posting a picture with Johnston.

Johnston was not happy with Frontier Airlines

Danny Pham posted: "I managed to get on the next connecting flight, it was genuinely ridiculous. Frontier turned a 2.5-hour flight into 8-9 hours flight + a horrendous delay (14hours).

"After we took the next flight that they rebooked us to. I know where your bag is, it’s at the original airport.”

The airline responded to Pham's post, writing: "We’re very sorry to hear about your experience and truly appreciate you bringing this to our attention. We would certainly like to look into this further.️”

It is unclear as to where Johnston was trying to fly to, with the defender most likely enjoying a vacation in what will be a shorter offseason due to the World Cup.

He is likely to report back to Celtic in just a few weeks time.

Johnston was one of many Canadian players to impress at the World Cup, with their fans much more happy than the United States and Mexico to make it as far as they had.

“Thank you Canada,” Johnston shared on Instagram. “Your support gave us the belief that anything was possible & we hope that you all enjoyed the ride as much as we did!

“This group takes such pride in representing our country and I hope that we made you proud. See you all soon.”
