He is survived by his daughters, grandson, siblings including Dolly Parton, and many extended family members

A private service will be held to honor his life

Coy “Denver” Parton has died. He was 82.

The crane operator and brother of Dolly Parton died on Thursday, July 23, according to an obituary shared by Atchley Funeral Home. His cause of death was not disclosed.

Born on Aug. 16, 1943, Denver was based in Sevierville, Tenn. and spent years building bridges in his profession, according to the obituary. He was also a homestead farmer and an avid hunter.

Atchley Funeral Home stated that Denver was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Parton; father, Lee Parton; mother, Avie Lee Owens Parton; infant brother, Larry Parton; older brother, David Parton; younger brothers, Randy and Floyd Parton; niece, Tever Parton; brothers-in-law, Carl Dean and Ray Buzzeo.

Denver is survived by daughters Chris and Jennifer, according to the obituary as well as his grandson, Ian Parton and fiancée Taylor York; brother, Bobby Parton; sisters, Willadeene Buzzeo, Dolly Parton, Stella Parton; Cassie Griffith (Greg), Freida Parton, Rachel George (Eric), Laura Price (David); sister-in-law, Kay Parton.

Additionally, per the funeral home, Denver is survived by a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and cousins; special nephew, Mitchell Blalock; special friends, Nancy Hurst and Kathy Farr.

A private service will be held sometime in the future, according to the obituary.

In a June interview with PEOPLE, Stella Parton spoke about how losing three of her brothers — David, Randy and Floyd — as well as a niece, Tever, over the past seven years impacted her life.

“Losing your parents is one thing… but that’s the natural progression of life. You accept and embrace that change from having parents to being an orphan,” said Stella, whose parents Robert and Avie Lee Parton died in 2000 and 2003, respectively. “But you don’t accept that as easily with a sibling.”

Stella added at the time, “Siblings are closer than anyone, really, because you’ve had them with you your whole life. I didn’t realize it would be such a painful experience.”
