SANFORD, Maine — An elderly married couple died from injuries they suffered in a May 10 collision in Sanford.
Sanford Deputy Police Chief Matthew Gagne said Arthur Karcher, 86, and his wife, Catherine, 85, of Alfred, were traveling south on Route 109 in their Chevrolet Malibu when the vehicle drifted into the northbound lane and collided with a Toyota Highlander driven by a 32‑year‑old woman from Lyman.
Sanford police say an elderly Alfred couple died from injuries they suffered in a May 10 collision.
The accident occurred at 8:56 a.m. in the area of 1811 Main Street, near Cabana’s Auto Body Shop, in the southern part of the city, according to Gagne.

“All three individuals were transported to the hospital with serious or life-threatening injuries,” Gagne said in an email on May 11. “Arthur and Catherine later died from injuries sustained in the crash.”
Weather and road conditions were not a factor in the crash, Gagne added.
The crash remains under investigation.
