Balancing a high-profile career with the responsibilities of parenthood is a challenge many face, but few do so as publicly as Kelly Clarkson. As a beloved figure in music and television, her choices often resonate with a global audience of working parents. Recently, the superstar opened up about the shifting priorities in her life. She shared that her family needed more of her time. For Clarkson, the transition marks a significant chapter where her role as a mother takes center stage over her professional commitments.

Kelly Clarkson says choosing spending time with kids over talk show was an ‘easy’ decision

During a recent appearance on TODAY alongside John Legend to discuss their return as coaches for “The Voice: Battle of Champions,” Kelly Clarkson addressed her decision to step away from her successful talk show.

When asked why now was the right time to take a break, Clarkson noted that the timing makes sense. Especially because of how her family dynamic has changed recently. She explained that as a parent, you begin to realize how precious life is and notice that there was simply “too much on the plate”.

Despite the show’s massive success, Clarkson admitted that the decision was bittersweet. “It wasn’t the show isn’t doing well. That’s what kind of sucked. It was like everything was going well,” she shared, emphasizing that the hardest part was the impact on her crew, whom she considers family. However, she clarified that while it was a difficult choice regarding her team’s jobs, it was an “easy decision as a mama” to pull back and prioritize her children.

Clarkson also shared humorous insights into her children’s relationship with her work. She shared that they usually “never want to come to the set.” In fact, they would much “rather go to school” than visit her at a job. However, she mentioned a rare exception. It was where they were “really psyched” to visit a film set directed by “Chris,” a serious filmmaker she admires.

She expressed deep gratitude that her kids were allowed to visit. In fact, she even shared that they are rarely interested in the Hollywood side of her life. Despite ending the talk show, Clarkson reminded fans she is still working other jobs. But she is committed to ensuring her schedule is no longer overwhelming.
