Hilary Duffreleased her long-awaited sixth studio album, Luck… or Something, on Feb. 20, 2026, and fans quickly realized that the 38-year-old's new song "Growing Up" includes a not-so-subtle nod to popular punk rock band Blink-182!

At first, the gentle, plucky twist on the main riff from one of Mark Hoppus, Tom DeLonge, and Travis Barker's most famous songs could be written off as coincidence. Then, you get to the chorus, and it's clear this bop is heavily inspired by Blink-182's 1997 jam "Dammit."
Though many of the lyrics are slightly tweaked, the connection is clear in "And it’ll happen once again/I’ll turn to you friend...And I guess this is growing up/I guess this is growing up."
Fans were excited to see the pop/rock crossover from the former Lizzie McGuire star, and took to the comments to share their thoughts.

"Hilary sampling Blink-182 was not on my bingo card this year," said one fan, while another wrote, "Yes! My jaw dropped in the most amazing way! This is my favorite one. So nostalgic!" A third added, "Came here as a Blink fan… Love when my boys' work gets appreciated. Hearing a girl sing the chorus hits different!"
Duff explained why she chose to borrow part of the song in a February 2026 interview with the Los Angeles Times. "Blink is one of my favorite bands," she said, admitting this song is just as nostalgic to her as it is to her fans. "I remember getting my driver’s license, and that was what was playing on my iPod."
