Kaia Gerber revealed that she’s written fanfiction.
The Shards actress told fans that she won’t go public.
“It’s not a human,” she hinted when asked what kind of stories she’s writing.
Kaia Gerber is one of Hollywood’s resident reader girls, but she’s — secretly — dipping her toe into the writing game as well.
“I write fan fiction,” Gerber dropped on the Aug. 6 episode of Jake Shane’s Therapusspodcast. “It’s so fun to write something even if you don’t put it — like, I write fan fiction and I don’t put it anywhere, I just like it.”
The Shardsstar did not disclose who — or what — she writes about. When asked, Gerber went completely silent.
“You know what I’ll say,” she teased. “It’s not a human. There you go, next question.”
Internet users had a field day with this admission, with one X user offering an interesting take on how writing fanfic has become more mainstream in recent years. Previously, it was a hobby kept closer to the vest.
“I say this as someone who loves fanfiction but I think culturally we need to go back to being embarrassed about it,” the social media user wrote. “Also kaia gerber can only get away with saying she writes fic because she looks like kaia gerber.”

Others were quick to praise Gerber, calling this “queen behavior” on X and some speculated that she was responsible for some Avatar fanfic.
“But will kaia gerber be brave enough to start the first celebrity ao3 book club?” another X user wrote, referring to Gerber’s Library Science book club and famous fanfic website, The Archive of Our Own.

Thursday’s podcast episode was not the first time Gerber brought up her fanfiction writing while on The Shards press tour. Gerber and The Shards costar Graham Campbell were playing a game of “fine or do we judge?” with a British digital media brand when the topic of fanfic came up.
“Adults who write erotic fanfiction, is it fine or do we judge?” the interviewer asked. Campbell said it’s “better than kids” writing erotic stories.

“That literally wasn’t the question,” Gerber responded, laughing. “You know I write fanfiction?”
Campbell wondered, “What kind of fanfiction?”
The two started laughing, and Gerber appeared to have immediate regret.
“It’s not Shards fanfiction but I, honestly, should start writing Shards fanfic,” she said. “I don’t know if I’ve ever spoken about it publicly, but I do write it. It’s not under my name but I do write fanfiction.”
When asked what kind of fanfic she writes, Gerber said it’s “not important.” She shushed Campbell when he pressed further, adding, “Don’t worry about it. Let’s move on.”
Comments ranged from not believing Gerber to hoping she’ll drop that link.
“Drop ur ao3 account name queen,” one Instagram user wrote. Another had an all-timer response.
“She wrote all the young dudes,” a second comment read, referring to several popularized Harry Potterfanfic stories. All the Young Dudes was written by MsKingBean89 during The Marauders Era, following Remus Lupin’s journey through Hogwarts as he explores a relationship with Sirius Black.
The same Instagram user joked, “You heard it here first, kaia gerber is selinyu!” as their comment continued. SenLinYuwrote Manacled, a dystopian fanfiction based on a romantic relationship between Hermione Granger and Draco Malfoy. Their debut novel Alchemised, a traditionally published rewrite of Manacled, was published in September 2025.
