Kate Middleton sent a flower named in her honor to a women's prison she visited in 2025.
On Feb. 12, Hello! magazine reported that the Princess of Wales, 44, donated a Catherine's Rose to HMP Styal, a women's prison in Cheshire that she visited last year. The rose was planted in the facility's garden on Feb. 11 by a mother and child who met Princess Kate during her visit in February 2025, exactly one year later.
Last winter, the Princess of Wales visited HMP Styal's Mother and Baby Unit to highlight the importance of strong mother and baby bonds to a child's development, even in the most challenging of environments.
Kate made the stop as patron of the charity Action for Children, which runs the mother-baby unit, and reportedly discussed donating a Catherine's Rose to the prison.

Commenting on the gift, Amanda Taylor, operational director of children's services at Action for Children, said, "We were delighted to plant 'Catherine's Rose' at HMP Styal, one year on from the princess' visit."
"The prison pond and gardens are of huge value to the mothers and babies here, providing children with space to enjoy nature and explore the outdoors, and this new addition will be treasured both by the families we support and staff alike," she continued. "I would like to thank the Princess of Wales for her kind donation."
In May 2025, the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) announced that it named a rose bred by Harkness Roses after Princess Kate in recognition of her efforts to celebrate the healing power of nature. Catherine's Rose was named in tribute to the royal's full name, Catherine, and funds from its sale benefit The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity, directed to helping The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust establish a unique training program for clinical teams across the U.K.

The Princess of Wales frequently speaks about how nature uplifted her while she was undergoing treatment for cancer, which she announced in March 2024, and during her recovery journey.
Kate shared in September 2024 that she completed chemotherapy treatment and in January 2025 that she is in remission, which came with the confirmation that she received treatment from The Royal Marsden Hospital during her cancer journey. It was also announced then that she and Prince William became joint patrons of The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust, which sales of Catherine's Rose now benefit.
The royal's visit to HMP Styal in February 2025 was one of her first outings as she gradually resumed royal duties after sharing that she was in remission. There, she saw firsthand how the specialized unit supported women and children through an on-site nursery, targeted interventions and trained staff, with Taylor telling PEOPLE it was an "incredible visit."

"We felt very privileged that the princess visited one of our mother and baby units," she said then. "We consider them our little gems that we don’t always get publicity about. It is incredibly important work that we deliver and for the princess to shine a light on that work was a fantastic opportunity for us."
Princess Kate has been patron of Action for Children since 2016 and later established the Royal Foundation’s Centre for Early Childhood in 2021 to further her advocacy work for children's early years.
