Kerry Washington recently revealed that she and her husband, Nnamdi Asomugha, started going to couples therapy
The actress, 49, opened up about the decision on a recent episode of the Call Her Daddy podcast hosted by Alex Cooper
“We start every session with something that the other person did well ... And every time I’m like, ‘This is the best part of my week.’ ” she explained of why she likes couples therapy
Kerry Washington revealed that she and her husband, Nnamdi Asomugha, started attending couple’s therapy “before anything was wrong.”
Washington, 49, opened up about their nearly 13-year marriage while on a recent episode of the Call Her Daddy podcast with host Alex Cooper. During the conversation, Cooper, 31, asked the actress about “what your partnership has taught you.”
“Oh, God, he teaches me stuff all the time,” the Scandal alum replied, before sharing that she and Asomugha, 44, are committed to couples counseling.
“One of the things that I really love about our relationship is that very early on, we started couples therapy. Like, we started couples therapy before anything was wrong … kind of preventatively,” she continued.

“We were like, we should just, like, start having these conversations so that if something does get hard, we already have a culture of knowing how to talk about stuff,” Washington explained, adding that she’s “obsessed” with the practice.

“I so look forward to it,” she said. “We start every session with something that the other person did well, like something that we appreciate about the other person. And every time I’m like, ‘This is the best part of my week.’ ”

“Because so often … the thing he shares with me, that he appreciated, or the thing I share with him, it's not something I would have guessed. It's like, something that, to me, was small, but to him, it meant a lot,” she explained.
“And that's so useful,” she added, “ ‘Cause now I'm like, ‘Oh, I can do that again! I can do that all the time.’ … So you really learn how to love each other better.”
The Knives Out: Wake Up Dead Man actress went on to say that Asomugha has also “taught me just how to be a better person.”

“And he's given me the greatest gift, which is his partnership, and also [being] a mom,” she added.
The couple share three children: Isabelle, 11, Caleb, 9, and Asomugha's daughter from a previous relationship.
Washington and Asomugha, who was an NFL player before he became an actor, tied the knot in a private outdoor ceremony in Idaho in June 2013.
