Jeff Bezos' wife, Lauren Sanchez, attended President Donald Trump's White House state dinner for China's President Xi Jinping in a glittering ensemble that maintained a timeless aesthetic.
Sanchez, 56, appeared at the prestigious event on Thursday, September 24, wearing a black vintage Alexander McQueen gown, featuring an off-the-shoulder design and a deep neckline that showcased her substantial diamond necklace. Her jewelry seemed to include a tennis necklace made from large emerald-cut diamonds, with an emerald-cut pendant diamond suspended from the center.
Alongside her extravagant necklace, Lauren also sported diamond drop earrings. Lauren's jewelry enhanced Lauren's otherwise understated black, form-fitting dress, though not sufficiently to shield her from social media backlash over her state dinner attire. It comes after Fox News host Jesse Watters was branded a "phony" for attending Trump's state dinner to honor Xi Jinping.

One user on X, formerly known as Twitter, "Money does not buy one class. She dresses terribly. So inappropriate." A second shared, "Have some dignity for goodness sake. This is a state dinner, and you are 56 years old."

Meanwhile, a third explained, "Her diamond could feed a lot of starving children." While Lauren opted for a gown, first lady Melania Trump, also 56, took a notably more relaxed approach, choosing pants and a blouse for Thursday evening's dinner.

Despite pairing black high-waisted Dolce & Gabbana pants with a Saint Laurent white bow-neck blouse, the former model faced a wave of online criticism for falling short of the formal standard many expected. "Melania needs a new wardrobe designer. She looked like she was going to a funeral in one shot, then in another, that big bow is just ridiculous, and pants? COME ON YOU HAVE A DUTY TO LOOK RESPECTABLE AND FASHIONABLE NOT LIKE SOMETHING OUT OF A FAIRY TALE," one raged on X.
A second added, "Melania should have worn a skirt or a dress. That outfit is too casual. She's always impeccable. This is a miss." A third shared, "What the f--- is Melania wearing? A giant white bow on two black stick pencils. It's ridiculous."

Yet another remarked, "Oh, I fear for Melania. Having dinner with that blouse on. Lol."
Despite the recurring harsh scrutiny of her wardrobe choices, her San Diego-based stylist and image consultant, Cynthia Kennedy, previously told the Daily Mail that she deliberately selects outfits to portray Melania as "independent" and "rebellious."
Speaking to the outlet in April, Cynthia described Melania as "wearing what SHE wants, from her favorite designers – mostly European luxury brands like Dolce and Gabbana – and she's making it clear that this job is something she's doing on her own terms. What she's doing may not necessarily be modern, but it is strategic."
Cynthia further noted, "She's not doing what people expect. She's not wearing safe, dull, traditional First Lady fashion."
