Luke Combs explains why he hasn’t tried new "medical technology," like GLP-1 weight-loss drugs
“That stuff scares me more than I think that I would enjoy the benefits of,” he said
The Grammy nominated country singer credits his wife and kids as motivating factors for staying healthy
Luke Combs is opening up about why weight-loss drugs just aren’t for him.
During the Tuesday, Feb. 24, episode of The New York Times’ Popcast podcast, the 35-year-old “Back in the Saddle” singer and father of three got candid about his approach to becoming healthier as he discussed one of his "biggest fears."
“One of my biggest fears is like, man, maybe I don’t get a shot just ‘cause of the way I look,” Combs said. “You know what I mean? And like, that was a hard pill to swallow, because you can’t really change the way you look.”

He also said that as his fame grew, he didn't have to field requests from music industry executives for him to change up his look by doing things like getting a trainer or changing his beard.
However, the “Beautiful Crazy” singer did joke that he dreams about looking like fellow country star Sam Hunt “everyday.”
“I have always struggled with my weight,” Combs said, shifting gears. “It bugs me a lot that I can’t figure it out. I don’t want my life to be this life of like, ease and like, everything’s easy. I like when stuff’s hard.”
When asked if that was his reasoning for avoiding new “medical technology,” like GLP-1 medications for weight loss, the singer-songwriter agreed.
“As dumb as that sounds, that stuff scares me more than I think that I would enjoy the benefits of,” he said.
Combs also confessed that up until now, he felt that he’s never done anything hard in his life.
“Like, I’m not out digging ditches, man,” the Grammy-nominated singer said. “It’s not that hard of a job.”

Still, the “Ain't No Love In Oklahoma” singer said his internal issues with his body image feel like “this thing I can’t conquer.”
“No matter how hard I try, it’s just been like this impossible nut to crack for me. And I will do it, but I’m not going to do it the short way,” Combs said. “And not that there’s anything wrong with that. That’s personal for you. I need to win, like, I need to beat myself.”

Combs has long been open about his feelings on staying healthy.
In June 2022, he told Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1 he wanted to be in shape for his family.
"This having a kid thing has really messed up my head on this thing in the best way," he said of his son Tex Lawrence, who Combs welcomed with his wife Nicole Hocking that same month. "I want to be around, dude. Do you know what I mean?"
He later told NBC News in November 2024 that "longevity is the goal” thanks to his wife and kids.

"Every day you get to spend with those guys is really fun and tough, and you need to be your best self to take care of them the way that you feel like they deserve to be taken care of."
"It's a long process, man. It's a long road," Combs added. "It's tough. It's a challenge, man. I struggle with it every day."
