On Jan. 29, Chanita Seedaket Craythorne of Thailand was crowned the winner of this year's Mrs World pageant
She earned the international title months after winning at the regional and national levels as a first-time pageant contestant
In preparing for her appearances on the pageant stage, Craythorne also set a personal goal for herself
Chanita Seedaket Craythorne felt like her best self as she was crowned Mrs. World on stage at the Westgate Las Vegas Resort & Casino, but she didn’t necessarily take a linear route to finding her confidence.
In the lead-up to her international pageant win on Thursday, Jan. 29, Craythorne nabbed two qualifying titles: first at the regional level as a first-time pageant contestant, then at the national level, when she was named the winner of Mrs. Thailand World.
Outside of pageantry, Craythorne serves as a brand and media coordinator for Save the Children. She tells PEOPLE that her work with the global charity organization is what inspired her to enter pageantry in the first place.

"A friend of mine phoned me and said, 'I would like you to join Mrs. Thailand World.' The first thing I did [was laugh], because I never knew of the platform before. Then I researched it to learn about the Thailand version and the World version — what they actually do or have been doing, what they advocated for," she recalls.
At the beginning of her pageantry journey, Craythorne says she timidly approached the opportunity, but once she realized her potential to see it through, she went all-in. As her perspective shifted, she also decided she wanted to lose weight to best prepare for the national competition.

"I started with like, 'OK, let's try. I have something that I want to talk about' ... Then I changed my mindset from that to winning," she recalls. Craythorne wanted to set herself up for success in every way possible, and working on her physical health was part of that goal.
"I thought, 'I just want to look the most beautiful on the 22nd of July. I want to be the most beautiful because the rest of my fellow contestants, they are beautiful," she adds.

Craythorne says she received harsh comments about her body after she won regionals, and the criticism made her worry she would "never be beautiful enough for pageant standards." She decided to take action and overcome the negativity aimed at her.
Over the course of months, she worked on herself with the intention to build personal confidence. She tells PEOPLE that she shed a total of 28 lbs. before competing at Mrs. World. But beyond what she sees on the scale, Craythorne says she is proud to have set and achieved a major personal goal in tandem with her pageantry win.
"I'd like to be the inspiration for anyone," says the international titleholder. "To some extent, even now, people still don't think I'm beautiful enough, but I don't take that personally. I mean, beautiful is [based on] different people's perspectives."
