Michigan State has been picked to finish second in the Big Ten this season, according to the annual unofficial media poll.

The Columbus Dispatch has released its preseason unofficial media poll, with the Spartans coming in at No. 2 of the 18 teams in the Big Ten. The Spartans only were behind preseason favorite Illinois, and were one spot ahead of rival Michigan in the poll.

Michigan State received 483 points in the poll, with nine first place votes. Illinois came in with 498 points (18 first place votes) to edge out the Spartans.

Michigan State comes into the season with high expectations, anticipated to be ranked in the top 10 in the national preseason polls. The Spartans return the Big Ten preseason player of the year in Jeremy Fears Jr. and should be a title contender in both the Big Ten and at the national level.
