The Pima County Sheriff's Department is clarifying some misleading reports connected to the search for Savannah Guthrie's elderly mother Nancy Guthrie in Arizona.
On Wednesday, the department's official X account released a statement emphasizing that investigators "have not identified a suspect or person of interest in this case," despite reports to the contrary."Detectives continue to speak with anyone who may have had contact with Mrs. Guthrie," the statement from Sheriff Chris Nanos continued. "Detectives are working closely with the Guthrie family. While we appreciate the public's concern, the sharing of unverified accusations or false information is irresponsible and does not assist the investigation. No suspect or person of interest has been identified at this time."The statement follows Nanos' press conference on Tuesday that reporters on how the search for Nancy, 84, was progressing since authorities were notified of her disappearance on Sunday.

Nanos shared that his office is working with the FBI to aggressively pursue "hundreds of leads" in the missing persons case. "We do believe that Nancy was taken from her home against her will, and that's where we're at," he said.
Jon Edwards, the assistant special agent in charge of the FBI's office in Tucson, joined Nanos to share how the FBI is providing the sheriff's office with "analytical and technical support" in the case, which includes "downloading and analyzing cell phones, obtaining cell tower information, conducting interviews," and providing additional investigative support.
"We are looking at this from every angle, but we need your help," Edwards said, adding, "Every lead and tip is important. We are aggressively pursuing and looking into every single one."

In a subsequent statement posted on Tuesday, Nanos said that investigators were "aware of reports circulating about possible ransom note(s) regarding the investigation into Nancy Guthrie.""We are taking all tips and leads very seriously. Anything that comes in, goes directly to our detectives who are coordinating with the FBI," the statement continued.

During Tuesday's press conference, Nanos confirmed that authorities have no additional identifying information that would help the public aid in the search and declined to share further information about the crime scene, including whether there was evidence of forced entry.
Nancy was last seen at her home on Saturday night, located near East Skyline Drive and North Campbell Avenue in Tucson. The next day, a church friend of Nancy's alerted the Today show co-anchor and her siblings, Cameron and Annie, that their mother hadn't attended morning service. After an unsuccessful search around her Tucson residence, the siblings called in authorities.
During a previous press conference on Monday, Nanos said the sheriff's department has classified Nancy's home as a crime scene, citing what officials described as "very concerning" conditions. Nanos didn't elaborate on what had made them suspicious.

While authorities previously said that Nancy has "no cognitive issues" and is "very alert," they acknowledged that she has multiple physical limitations and health issues, including high blood pressure, a pacemaker, and cardiac issues. She is currently without her daily medication, which she needs for survival.
On Monday, Savannah asked the public to pray for her mom's safe return in posts across her social media. "We believe in prayer. we believe in voices raised in unison, in love, in hope. we believe in goodness. we believe in humanity. above all, we believe in Him," she captioned an image of the words "Please pray."
