Kim Kardashian is facing criticism from PETA after revealing that she gifted each of her four children a new puppy for Christmas.

The backlash began after Kardashian, 45, shared a photo to her Instagram Stories showing four Pomeranian puppies cuddled together. “Each kid got a puppy,” she wrote over the image, which quickly sparked debate online.

PETA founder Ingrid Newkirk did not hold back when reacting to the post. “Puppies are not plushies, and it’s a damn shame that Kim missed the chance to be a spokesperson for shelter pups and instead is being rightly slammed on social media for that,” Newkirk told the Daily Mail Sunday, December 28.

Newkirk went on to criticize what she described as a larger issue. “Ignoring the homeless animals crisis is inexcusably callous,” she said, urging the reality star “to call PETA or a local shelter the next time [she] wants to bring an animal into [her] home.”

She also suggested ways Kardashian could respond to the criticism, including having her children volunteer at a local shelter, funding “a local shelter adopt-a-thon,” or sponsoring “at least one spay day to help stop the growing homeless puppy crisis.”

Puppies aren’t plushies. Kim and KhloĂ© Kardashian missed a huge opportunity to use their platform to help shelter dogs instead of buying from breeders. Ignoring the homeless animal crisis is inexcusable. Next time, call a shelter and choose adoption. https://t.co/hHdaQ5Lb8a

And fans were quick to comment on the gift as well, many criticizing the SKIMS founder i nthe process.

“They keep getting animals and then we never hear about them again. It's like the Bermuda Triangle for pets,” one X user wrote.

Another shared, “This is infuriating to me! Dogs are family not ‘gifts’ that end up given away.”

“Cool. Who’s feeding them and picking up all of the sh*t?’ a third asked.

Kardashian, 45, shares her four children—North, 12, Saint, 10, Chicago, 7, and Psalm, 6—with ex-husband Kanye West. Newkirk also extended her criticism to Kardashian’s sisterKhloĂ© Kardashian, who also welcomed a black Labrador puppy into her own family.

After posting a sweet note from her children, True, 7, and Tatum, 3, asking Santa for a puppy a few weeks prior, KhloĂ©, 41, made sure St. Nick followed through. “I am not ok right now. This may be my gift because I could cry,” she wrote on her Instagram Story, tagging the breeder. “She is the sweetest soul ever!!!!!!”

The controversy unfolded just days after Kim turned Christmas Eve into an iconic fashion moment. While many lean into cozy holiday looks, Kardashian opted for full glamour, stepping out in a rare archival metallic silver gown from Mugler’s 1986 Hiver Russe collection—a piece famously worn by Iman on the runway.
