Presley Gerber, a model and the son of Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber, died at age 27 on Sept. 20.
Gerber, who experienced a cardiac arrest after a suspected overdose in a sober living facility, had a history of addiction, which he had spoken about in the past, with the support of his parents and sister, model Kaia Gerber.
A source close to Kaia told PEOPLE that the family is “in total shock” following his tragic passing.
“They are saddened beyond words,” the source said. “Kaia loved that Presley was so open about his struggles; his family was so proud that he was finding strength in helping others.”
Another source close to Crawford told PEOPLE, “Cindy and Rande could not have been more supportive of Presley. They were always there for him and did everything they could to help him. The family has always been incredibly close, and Presley was deeply loved.”
