Rose Byrne Makes Her BAFTAs Debut in a Sparkling Miu Miu Gown

Rose Byrne makes her BAFTA debut this evening, as she is nominated for Leading Actress for her performance in If I Had Legs I’d Kick You.

“I’ve given up long ago trying to predict what will or won’t be seen or acknowledged,” she said before the Golden Globes, where she won. “I simply can’t crack the code. So having this happen is an experience. I think the film is outstanding, wild and challenging, so any critical acknowledgement has been extraordinary. The movie is unlike anything you’ve ever seen and like nothing you’ll ever experience – and Mary shot it in 27 days. It’s important to also see this as a female story, through a female lens. It’s wonderful to be part of this season because there are many stories being told through that perspective.”

Byrne is up against Emma Stone (Bugonia), Jessie Buckley (Hamnet), Renate Reinsve (Sentimental Value), Chase Infiniti (One Battle After Another), and Kate Hudson (Song Sung Blue). For the occasion, she wore a sparkling Miu Miu gown. The light yellow chiffon gown is embroidered with degradè crystals. “It’s my first time at the BAFTAs, so the look needed to be memorable. And while the influence of Miuccia Prada is unsurpassed,” she told Vogue, “bringing intellect and rigour to clothes, there is something so fun and fresh about Miu Miu.”

She paired the gown with statement earrings. Bryne was joined by her husband, Bobby Cannavale, for the evening.

“A red-carpet dress has to be flattering, because you have to feel comfortable in the public eye, but it should also be fun – you can’t take clothes too seriously,” Byrne added.
