Ryan Gosling pauses “Project Hail Mary” event to try to get Eva Mendes' brother a job

Ryan Gosling is trying to get a very important person a new job.
The La La Land actor paused a promotional event for his latest movie, Project Hail Mary, to praise his longtime partner Eva Mendes' brother, urging someone in the audience to scoop him up.

"Can I stop you one second?" Gosling asked the moderator at the Directors Guild of America headquarters in Los Angeles this week, as shown in a video posted by TikTok user @t.nonamer.
He continued, "Carlo, are you in the audience? Where? Carlo Mendez, can you stand up for a second?"
The video then panned to Mendez sheepishly rising to his feet in the middle of the theater.
"Okay, how many of you are directors? Raise your hands," Gosling asked the crowd. "How many producers? How many writers?"
The Nice Guys star then introduced his guest. "Okay, this is Carlo Mendez," he explained. "He's Eva Mendes' brother. He is the hardest-working nonworking actor in this town that I have ever met. So my Hail Mary is, please, hire this man! He deserves it."
Gosling added, "If you're writing something, directing something, put him in it. He deserves it."

Mendez has been working on TV and film projects since the mid-2000s, when he appeared in an episode of 90210. He appeared in two episodes of Parks & Recreation in 2011, and has acted in multiple episodes of shows like The Rich & the Ruthless and The Bay.
The actor also popped up in an episode of 9-1-1 in 2022, and recently had a recurring role as Hector Estrada in four episodes of Dexter: Original Sin.
"Portraying a character like this was a dream come true," Mendez said in an Instagram post about his turn on Dexter. "[Dexter: Original Sin] is an amazing show, and I'm so lucky to have had a part in it. I remember being so nervou,s and I was just hoping I didn't forget my name or my dialogue or even drown."
Mendez attended the 2024 SAG Awards with Gosling, who was nominated for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in Barbie.

Gosling and Eva Mendes began dating after working together on 2012's The Place Beyond the Pines. They share two daughters.
Mendes has not appeared on screen since 2014, when she acted in Gosling's feature directorial debut, Lost River. She also performed a voice role in a 2021 episode of the animated series Bluey.

Project Hail Mary stars Gosling as Ryland Grace, a scientist who travels lightyears away from Earth to investigate a phenomenon causing the sun and other stars to dim. It is currently the second-highest-grossing movie of 2026 at the domestic box office.
