As Savannah Guthrie returned to Today‘s Studio 1A, other hosts took the day off.

Guthrie joined Craig Melvin at the NBC morning show’s anchor desk on Monday, August 10, marking her first day back after a weeks-long break. Guthrie began her weeks-long break from the show on July 21, with hosts such as Today‘s Sheinelle Jones, NBC News’ Hallie Jackson, and Weekend Today‘s Laura Jarrett filling in for her amid her absence.

Though Guthrie was back on the show, several members of the show’s regular hosting lineup were missing on Monday, including Al Roker, Jenna Bush Hager, Carson Daly, and Dylan Dreyer. Weekend Today‘s Angie Lassman took over Roker’s weather reporting duties, while NBC News’ Kaylee Hartung handled pop culture news for Daly.

Guthrie’s Today break was a planned one, as she previously announced she was taking time off to film NBC’s upcoming Wordle game show. Guthrie will host the series, based on the popular New York Times game, while Jimmy Fallon serves as an executive producer.

“We’re about to do it. Guys, I’m headed over to shoot Wordle. Over the next few weeks, we’re gonna shoot the whole season, and we’re super excited,” she shared on the show’s July 16 episode. “Cannot wait for everyone to see it. It’ll probably air, I think, in the new year.”

Guthrie hasn’t offered any glimpses into her filming journey via social media. However, Hoda Kotb revealed that Guthrie paid her a visit amid her Today break by sharing a sweet photo of the two via Instagram. “My favorite place… next to you @savannahguthrie,” Kotb, who anchored Today with Guthrie from 2018 to 2025, captioned the Thursday, August 6, snap.

Nancy Guthrie Update: Forensic Psychologist Makes Bold Claim About Ransom Notes

Earlier during her Today break, Savannah took to Instagram to share a new plea for her missing mother, Nancy Guthrie. Nancy was abducted from her Arizona home in February, and authorities have yet to name any suspects in the case. “I’m coming on today with a very specific message. It has been months since our mom was taken from us. Our family is in agony. We are in a nightmare that will not end,” she said in the July 27 video. “Nothing about our situation has changed. We have done our part, but we will never stop looking for her. We will always ache for her and feel that hole in our hearts.”

She continued, “The world can be a cruel and unforgiving place, and I know that you have tried to do things the right way. So I’m asking you, begging you, to do the right thing now. Make the right choice. Help us find her. Tell us where to look for her. I truly believe it is never too late to do the right thing. Help us bring this situation to an end for all of us, no matter where we’ve been and what we’ve done. I believe there is always a way home. Please make the right choice.”

Back in May, Savannah revealed on Today that Wordle was officially greenlit in February and was supposed to start filming in March. Production, however, was put on pause in the wake of Nancy’s disappearance.

“I just want to say a quick thank you to NBC and to Jimmy and his production company and The New York Times and studio Universal because when everything happened with me and my family, they just stopped everything and said, ‘We’ll wait for you,’” she shared. “And Hollywood is a really tough business, as you know, and I didn’t expect that. And I just want to say thank you. It means so much to me.”
