Buffy the Vampire Slayer star Seth Green recalled his days on The WB series in a recent interview.
He shared that he wasn’t surprised to learn that he’d be shirtless on camera.
The defunct network, which targeted teens and young adults, went off the air in 2006.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer alum Seth Green wasn’t surprised when he had to take off his shirt in front of the camera.
“That kind of show, especially when you get cast in like romance stuff,” Green said on a recent episode of the How To Make It With Emily Cappello podcast. “I’d already seen half the people on that show without their clothes on. Right? It’s WB. WB was like, ‘let’s see how naked we can get these kids. Y’all are 18, right?’ That’s kind of where we were.”
Green began acting as a child and, by the time he was on Buffy, he had already appeared on TV’s The Facts of Life, Mr. Belvedere, The Wonder Years, and Beverly Hills, 90210. He was in his early 20s.
He made his Buffy debut in 1997’s second season, alongside Sarah Michelle Gellar (Buffy), Alyson Hannigan (Willow), Nicholas Brendon (Xander), and more. The teen drama, based on the 1992 movie of the same name, was about the title character battling vampires and other baddies plus high school at the same time.
Green played Oz, a werewolf, until his departure in 2000.
He said that he’d taken the assignment to go shirtless “very seriously.”
“I had come from a generation that watched both Luke Perry and Jason Priestley topless in almost every episode” of Beverly Hills, 90210. “I was like, all right, I’m going to do a bunch of sit-ups that are like... Make this worthwhile.”

Green said he would never forget someone’s suggestion that he enhance his look.

“I had another actor recommend that perhaps I got contouring, right? Like airbrush contouring. And I was like, buddy, I’m so pale. I think any airbrushing would look like tattoos. So I’m just going to raw dog this and let’s see where we get.”
Before it went off the air in 2006, after combining with UPN to form CW, The WB was known for teen shows such as Dawson’s Creek, Felicity, Popular, and One Tree Hill, which were often controversial for the way it depicted stars who were playing teenagers, regardless of their actual ages.
Green has gone on to appear in and lend his voice to movies and TV shows, such as Can’t Hardly Wait, Family Guy, the Austin Powers movies, The Italian Job, and Robot Chicken.
