A source confirms to PEOPLE that Shannon Elizabeth quietly filed for divorce from her husband Simon Borchert

According to the source, the filing happened "in the last few days" and the split is "rather fresh"

The American Pie actress also recently joined OnlyFans

Shannon Elizabeth is starting an entirely new chapter.

In addition to announcing her decision to join OnlyFans, Elizabeth, 52, also quietly filed for divorce from her husband Simon Borchert, PEOPLE has learned.

According to a source close to the situation, the divorce filing happened "in the last few days" and the split is "rather fresh."

"Now that she is single, she wants to have a bit more freedom and be wild," the source tells PEOPLE.

Elizabeth and Borchert wed in 2021.

More than two decades ago, Elizabeth rose to fame starring in American Pie, the 1999 raunchy comedy that followed a group of high school friends on a mission to lose their virginity before graduation. Elizabeth's character, Nadia, quickly became one of the movie's most talked-about roles.

Following the comedy's success, Elizabeth appeared in popular early-2000s titles including Scary Movie (2000), Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back (2001), Thirteen Ghosts (2001) and Love Actually (2003).

Now, Elizabeth is embracing being single—she even changed her relationship status on Facebook.
