March 1 was the start of meteorological spring, but the forecast might look more like the beginning of summer for millions across the South.
Over the course of this week, we will see dozens of high temperature records fall from the Plains to the mid-Atlantic, even northward into parts of the Great Lakes.
Records Broken So Far
Numerous daily high temperature records were tied or broken on Tuesday. Some of these daily records have been held for over 100 years. Below are some of the most notable:
Austin Camp Mabry, Texas: 89 degrees (Tied old record set in 1901)
Austin Bergstrom, Texas: 89 degrees (Old record 85 set in 1974)
Fort Myers, Florida: 87 degrees (Tied old record set in 2015)
Roswell, New Mexico: 86 degrees (Tied old record set in 1967)
Greenwood, Mississippi: 84 degrees (Old record 83 set in 1953)
New Iberia, Louisiana: 83 degrees (Old record 82 set in 1955)
Shreveport, Louisiana: 83 degrees (Old record 82 set in 1974)

Southeast And Mid-Atlantic Feeling The Warmth
This warmth is now spreading eastward into much of the Southeast and mid-Atlantic, even the Great Lakes and Northern Plains. The record heat will peak on Friday for most.
On Friday, daily record highs could fall from Houston to Tampa, and stretch northward to Cincinnati and Raleigh. This sprawling area will see high temperatures as much as 25-30 degrees above average for this time of year.
We could see record highs in places like Atlanta, Memphis, Charlotte and even Indianapolis and Washington, D.C.
On Saturday, places as far north as Pittsburgh could see highs top 70.
Even parts of the Northeast may feel the spring vibes with temperatures reaching the 60s by the weekend in parts of southern New England, the New York City tri-state and other parts of New York state. This will be a welcomed change from the two and a half feet of snow that was dumped on the region by Winter Storm Hernando less than two weeks prior.
How Long Will This Last?
This being spring, you probably knew this warmth wasn't going to last long.
A pronounced pattern change is expected to pull colder air southward from Canada beginning Tuesday in the Rockies and Plains, then pushing to the rest of the South and East later next week.
So, enjoy the spring warmth while you can through this weekend, before this change arrives.
