Tyriq Withers revealed to PEOPLE that he would love to star in a High School Musical sequel if the film franchise came back

The actor explained his special connection to the 2006 film

Withers starred in HIM and I Know What You Did Last Summer

Imagine Tyriq Withers singing and dancing to a classic High School Musical song when he was just a little boy in elementary school.

The 27-year-old actor revealed to PEOPLE in an exclusive conversation at the 2025 CFDA Fashion Awards on Nov. 3 that he did just that.

“I actually performed [‘We’re All in This Together’] for my fifth-grade talent show … and it’s been a dream of mine to bring [High School Musical] back, so, you never know,” Withers says of the 2006 musical movie during the New York City event at the American Museum of Natural History.

Asked whether he’d star in a High School Musical sequel if the film franchise ever came back, the HIM and I Know What You Did Last Summer star says, “There is no question when that question is presented to me.”

The topic of High School Musical popped up at the CFDA Fashion Awards when Withers was describing his personal style using only one song.

“What about the song ‘We’re All in This Together,’ ” he says as he sang and hummed a portion of the popular sing-along song, “because I just try my best and it takes a village to make a nice fashion statement.”

In High School Musical, the characters played by Zac Efron, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale and Lucas Grabeel, among others, perform the song in a packed gym after Efron’s Troy Bolton scores a winning shot in a basketball game. The segment includes a viral dance break.

At the CFDA Fashion Awards, Withers also revealed who he thinks is the sexiest fashion icon alive right now.

“Colman Domingo — 150,000%,” Withers tells PEOPLE of The Running Man actor. “Shout-out, Colman Domingo. I’ve met him, I have his number, we’re going to grab coffee, so yeah, I’m a big fan.”

“And on top of that, he greeted me with such acceptance and love and always appreciative of that,” Withers emphasizes.
