Tyson Fury claims Anthony Joshua fight is off and calls rival ‘yellow-bellied coward’

Tyson Fury has sensationally claimed the long-awaited super-fight with Anthony Joshua may now be off and accused his rival of being a “yellow-bellied coward”.

An official announcement for the long-mooted ‘Battle of Britain’ finally came earlier this week, with Cardiff’s Principality Stadium hosting the heavyweight bout on 11 December, which will also be streamed live on Netflix.

But overnight on Friday, the clash was thrown into jeopardy with Ring Magazine journalist Mike Coppinger reporting that it could be called off due to unspecified “issues”. Coppinger also suggested a replacement bout between Terence Crawford and Ryan Garcia was being considered, as well as Fury fighting unified cruiserweight champion David Benavidez instead.

Although Coppinger didn’t specify what the issues are, it is thought to surround the potential involvement of Dana White – the UFC supremo who runs Zuffa Boxing – with Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn insisting White not be part of proceedings.

That is despite Wednesday’s official announcement stating that Turki Alalshikh, who is financing the fight, and White “will collaborate to promote this historic showdown”.

Fury has now poured fuel on to the fire by releasing a video on social media accusing Hearn and Joshua of pulling out of the fight.

The ‘Gypsy King’ said: “Breaking news, AJ and Eddie are trying to pulling out of the fight,”

“It’s mainly to do with Eddie Hearn’s ego. He’s making up a million different things. AJ, pull your finger out you little white-flagged, yellow-bellied coward. Now you’ve got Turki Alalshikh finding alternative real men who will fight at the drop of a hat. So I hope you are happy you cowardly b*****ds.”

In a second video, Fury appeared to confirm the speculation that White’s potential involvement is the real sticking point.

Fury said: “So Eddie Hearn’s ego is trying to cost us and all the boxing fans around the world, the fight the whole world has been waiting for over a decade.

“And it is all because Eddie doesn’t want someone in the building. It’s pathetic and childish. He doesn’t want him in the building, like he’s nine year-old. You silver-spooned w****r.

“And Joshua, you ought to be ashamed of yourself. I’ve agreed to fight different locations for you. I had a contract, if I had stuck to that contract there would have been no fight. But I’m a fighting man. That’s the difference. You little cowards.”

Fury then shared a fight poster for a proposed bout between him and Benavidez on the same date in Cardiff, while Alalshikh posted a photo of him and White on a video call, with the latter smoking a cigar.
