Not even a wardrobe malfunction could stop Viola Davis from celebrating Michael B. Jordan winning the Actor Award.

The Oscar-winning actress, 60, revealed that she ripped her dress during her viral reaction to Jordan taking home the prize for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role for his performance in Ryan Coogler’s vampire drama Sinners at the March 1 ceremony.

“And I didn't rip my dress — well, I did rip my dress open,” Davis confessed on Tuesday's episode of The Tonight Show. “I did. I did rip my dress open. But it's all good!”

While presenting the award, Davis opened the envelope, gasped, and shouted, "You are shining, Harold Loo-!" — a reference to the line "You are shining, Harold Loomis. Shining like new money" from August Wilson's 1984 play Joe Turner’s Come and Gone — before saying Jordan’s name. As the actor hugged his costar Delroy Lindo, who originated the role of Harold Loomis on Broadway in 1988, and made his way to the stage, Davis could be overheard excitedly cheering, “Oh! Oh! Oh!”

And she made sure to celebrate Jordan when he arrived, pulling him into a hug before handing him the trophy.

Davis’ enthusiastic reaction to Jordan’s win quickly went viral, but as she told host Jimmy Fallon on Tuesday, she’s a naturally excitable person. "I think that I'm that auntie at the party that's had one too many beers and just shows her ass too many times," she quipped. "'Cause that was that moment."

She added, "I'm that parent at the soccer game. I’m that parent that the referee is like, ‘Hold up, hold up. You’re gonna get disqualified.'"

Davis recently told Variety that she and her husband Julius Tennon have been "laughing for two days" at the reaction to the viral clip.

She also took a moment to praise Jordan and his career. "Michael B. Jordan is an incredible human and an incredible leader," she told the outlet. "It's extremely exciting what he's going to become. Now he's getting into directing. and he is going to bring African American filmmaking into a beautiful place."
