Xolo Maridueña said Practical Magic 2 costars Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock "welcomed me in" during filming
The sequel, which follows a multigenerational family of witches breaking a centuries-old curse, premieres on Sept. 11
Maridueña also stars alongside Al Pacino in Killing Castro, a drama about Fidel Castro's 1960 visit to the U.S.
Xolo Maridueña "was so happy" to join everyone in making the Practical Magicsequel.
During the Killing Castro world premiere on Tuesday, June 9, at OKX Theater at BMCC Tribeca Performing Arts Center in New York City, Maridueña, 25, walked the red carpet as part of the 2026 Tribeca Film Festival.
The Cobra Kai actor exclusively spoke with PEOPLE about his experience filming Practical Magic 2 alongside original costars Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock, noting he felt "welcomed" into the franchise family.
"Girl, I was like ... I already loved the movie," Maridueña said. "And the chemistry that the whole cast has, I wanted to bottle it up and hold it forever. Everyone was so kind. It was my first time filming abroad, we were in London."

"And Sandra and Nicole and the whole Practical Magic family totally welcomed me in," he continued. "And I was so happy to be there. I can't wait for people to see it. It's going to be one that you're going to want to go with the fam or ladies night. Or you're going out for margaritas, whatever."
He added, "It's going to be a good one. September. Don't forget. But we're here for Killing Castro. But don't forget, Practical Magic, September."
Maridueña also explained that he feels "really blessed" for the major Hollywood stars he's had the honor to work alongside so far.
"I have been really blessed in some of the folk that I've gotten to work with thus far, Nicole, Sandra, two legends that totally lead by example. Class acts," he said.

He also spoke about his Killing Castro costar Al Pacino, noting that he "couldn't have dreamt" of getting to work with the legendary actor. "At the end of the day, all these folk are people. And to get to just share a little bit of time is a pleasure," he told PEOPLE.

"So much of what I remember and drives me and motivates me is that experience of getting to work with the crew and a cast, that family that you make," he added. "For me, it's less about type of role or what the face of the role has, and the people that are making it. I'd love to continue to work with first time directors and the new generation of people making movies. I think that I have a tremendous amount of respect for the GOATs and the greats, and I also am just as excited about the people who have yet to have their voices shared on the main stage."
The first Practical Magic film premiered in 1998 — before Maridueña was born. Bullock, now 61, played Sally Owens and Kidman, now 58, starred as sister Gillian Owens. Based on Alice Hoffman's novel of the same name, the two siblings learn to embrace their witchy powers as they come from a magical family.
Kidman first shared the beloved filmwould receive a sequel in a 2024 interview with PEOPLE, where she said she and Bullock "found a way in" to returning to the world of the original movie. "The enduring affection for these characters has been our inspiration to deliver the next installment in the Owens' story to new fans, and those who've been with us since the beginning," the sequel's filmmaking team said in a 2025 statement about the movie.
While exact details about Maridueña's role in Practical Magic 2 are still unknown, he is playing the love interest to the character Kylie Owens (Joey King), the daughter of Sally Owens. "A multigenerational family of witches, cursed to be loveless for centuries, attempts to break the spell by confronting dark secrets and sacrificing for each other," the plot reads on IMDb.
The rest of the sequel's cast includes Maisie Williams, Stockard Channing, Lee Pace, Dianne Wiest and Solly McLeod.

He is invited by Malcolm X to stay in Harlem at the famous Hotel Theresa. Unsure of his intentions, the FBI, CIA and the Mafia, attempt to eliminate him by any means necessary," the IMDb synopsis states.
